Magnetic Particle Testing

Magnetic particle test MT is a non-destructive NDT test that uses a magnetic field to detect cracks, pores and gaps in surface or near-surface penetration. This test instead of dye uses magnetized iron oxide particles to locate defects. The test piece is magnetized so that we create a magnetic field flowing and then work is done to spread the fine ferrous particles powder on the surface of the material to be tested. The presence of any defect, and the defect is in the form of transverse cracks, would cause some lines of magnetic force to come out of the material and form an external magnetic field, in other words, a distortion of the magnetic field occurs, and this pushes the fine metal particles to form a protrusion on top of the cracks, and the bumps are easily identified As it is much wider than the cracks themselves
